Algarve - World's Leading Beach Destination 2020
The Algarve is the “Best Beach Destination in the World” in 2020. The Algarve region won, for the first time, this World Travel Awards, an award that «gives the Algarve an invaluable added value», defended João Fernandes, president do Turismo do Algarve.
The Algarve received this distinction at the Grand Final of the World Travel Awards, the most popular ever, which took place in Moscow, a few weeks after being voted the Best Beach Destination in Europe for the seventh time.
«Receiving this double distinction is, this year, more important than ever, since, once the confidence levels for travel start to increase, tourists will want to choose the destinations that offer the best guarantees, according to João Fernandes.
"It is an immense pride for the region to receive this award for the first time worldwide, and also an enormous responsibility, which requires us to continue working, constantly, to raise the standards of the tourist offer of our destination", he added.
The Algarve brought together «the preference of the main leaders of the tourism and travel industry from all over the world, who voted to reward the best tourism offer on a global level».
The Algarve region was the winner «of a list of 18 nominees, competing, side by side, with other world-renowned beach destinations, such as the Maldives, Thailand, Jamaica, Cancún (Mexico), Miami Beach (USA) or Peloponnese ( Greece), among others », according to Turismo do Algarve.
This year's edition reached a record number of votes by the most important tourism professionals and consumers, which translates into a promising indicator.
«Despite the difficult challenges that the sector has been dealing with throughout this year, we realize that the desire to travel remains, and more alive than ever, which represents, for companies and professionals in this area, a fair recognition of their merit, a feeling of hope and a great incentive to continue working and to believe that tourism will be reborn and return even stronger », concluded João Fernandes.
