Portugal is the first European country to receive the 'Safe Travels' label
Portugal was the first European country to receive the "Safe Travels" label from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), which aims to recognize destinations that comply with health and hygiene protocols aligned with the institution's protocols.
The goal is to encourage consumer confidence, "so that they feel they can travel safely once the restrictions are lifted," the government said in a statement.
The Secretary of State for Tourism, Rita Marques, stressed that Portugal was a pioneer in the launch of the "Clean & Safe" label and that this WTTC seal "rewards the effort that has been made by all".
"The best destination in the world is also understood as the safest in the world," she said.
The WTTC has also published guidance for other sectors, including catering, street trade, aviation, airports, congress centers, meetings and events.
In addition to distinguishing destinations, the WTTC is also promoting a seal that recognizes the commitment to security by companies, which can be obtained through the WTTC website.
